Sima Naseem is an award-winning Pakistani-Canadian mixed media artist and filmmaker whose artistic approach encompasses animation, painting and public art. Her creative endeavours incorporate elements of character, nature, and movement. Her narratives aim to positively impact her community through vibrant colours and playful designs - promoting inclusivity, cultural exploration, and environmental awareness. She is the recipient of the Emerging Visual Arts-Multimedia award at the Mississauga Arts Awards 2024.
As an Honours Bachelor of Animation graduate at Sheridan College (2023), Naseem's animated films have garnered recognition at the Ottawa International Animation Festival, Seoul Indie-Ani Fest and Stop Motion Montreal. Her graduate film, My Friend in the Jingle Truck was featured in the CBC Series, Absolutely Canadian S24 – Toronto Reel Shorts episode. It was also awarded Best Animation at the Muslim International Film Festival (2023) and Mosaic International Film Festival of Arts and Culture (2024) and Judges’ Choice Award at the 2024 Brampton Film Screening. Her work has also been featured on numerous large-scale murals across the GTA including the Paramount Fine Foods Center Sports Complex, Mississauga’s Celebration Square, Old Fairgrounds Park, Brampton and the Burnhamthorpe Community Center. Her dedication to sharing cultural and personal expressions drives her ongoing quest to innovate across artistic mediums, evident in her contributions to film, murals, and mixed media projects.
